When will my cat & dogs stop growing?
Many new kitten and puppy parents ask the burning question: “When will my new pet stop growing?” Sometimes we wish that our kitten or puppy would stay small forever, but it’s inevitable that they will grow up to be a mature cat and dog.
When will my dog stop growing?
If you have a new dog, you may wonder when your puppy will reach its fully-grown size. Is your pup still growing? Will it get even bigger?
It’s safe to say that the smaller dog breeds have reached their full size by 10 months to 1 year of age.
The ssmall-medium dog breeds will finish growth by about 12-15 months and will have reached their full weight by about 18 months.
Medium and large dog breeds are at full growth by about 18 months and at their full weight by about 2 years of age.
Giant dog breeds may take up to three years to reach their full weight, though they should be fully grown into their paws by about 18 months.
A good indicator for giant dog breeds is the size of their paws. When they are puppies, big dog breeds appear to have over-sized paws that look disproportional to the rest of the body. However, after fully “growing into” their paws, they will look better proportioned.
While the timeline will vary by each pet, this should give you a good indication when your puppy will be fully grown.
When will my cat stop growing?
Kittens can be a blast; my wife and I have 9 rescue cats and I can tell you for sure they are 10 times cutter when they are small. They can also be 10 times a pain in the butt. Its normal to wonder when you cat will stop growing.
For most, a kitten is considered an adult when it reaches 12 months of age, but your cat may not actually be fully grown at this point. Kittens typically reach a length and weight close to their full-grown size by 9 months to 1 year of age. After the 1-year mark, most cats continue to grow at a much slower rate until at least year and a half of age. Large breeds, such as Maine coon cats, typically take even longer to grow to their full size. These cats may not be fully grown until they reach 2 to 4 years of age.
So, whether you have a new puppy or new kitten, enjoy the times they are that small and adorable because they grow up quick.
